The origin of this forest and heathland has to do with the radio broadcasting station of Wingene-Ruiselede. The area around the transmission towers had to be kept open and free of forests. This is how this beautiful nature reserve was created, where it is good to cycle along the sandy roads. The area is currently managed by Natuurpunt Gulke Putten.
