From the bike path you can see the 🏰 Neideck very well.

The Neideck castle ruins are now a landmark of Franconian Switzerland.

During the Romantic period, it was often described, drawn and painted by writers, poets and painters. Today it is a popular tourist destination, landmark and occasionally also the setting for cultural events such as theater performances. From the Neideck tower you have a wonderful view over the Wiesenttal and the Streitburg ruins opposite.

The Neideck castle ruins were once the ancestral home of the powerful Schlüsselberg family, the former "managers" of today's Franconian Switzerland. In 1347, Count Konrad von Schlüsselberg built a customs post in the Wiesenttal, provoking his neighbors. The Nuremberg and Würzburg bishops then attacked the Neideck family and fatally wounded the count.

One anecdote tells that he was sitting on the toilet that protruded over the wall when he was "thrown to death."
