Lorsch Market Square and Town Hall 🚴♂️- The historic Lorsch Town Hall was built between 1714 and 1715 based on the Heppenheim Town Hall. It consists of a rectangular sandstone ground floor, supported by a two-story half-timbered building with a finely structured bay window on each side of the main facade. In the center, there is also a bay window supporting a tower with a double dome. The upper dome housed the fire bell, which has now been replaced by a carillon. On the upper floor of the town hall is the imposing "Nibelungen Hall," which is now used as a meeting and concert hall. It features murals depicting events at Lorsch Abbey, which at one time held the status of a principality.de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rathaus_(Lorsch)

- The Tobacco Fountain was erected in 1991 for the Hessentag (Hessen Day) in Lorsch. The walk-in fountain stands directly in front of the Old Town Hall and depicts a tobacco seamstress at work. The fountain commemorates the laborious work of Lorsch's tobacco seamstresses, who (until the introduction of tobacco sewing machines in 1956) sewed the tobacco leaves together by hand with needle and thread to form a "bandolier" and bundle them in preparation for drying. But the work also brought something good: sewing tobacco was a social event back then. Among the seamstresses, many stories were told, the latest news was shared, and songs were sung. Even the elderly and children helped back then. The fountain thus commemorates not only the laborious work, but also this beautiful tradition.nibelungenland.net/Media/Attraktionen/Tabakbrunnen

- The Lorsch Monastery with its Royal Hall was founded in 764. A few years later, the current complex was built on the dune ridge. The gatehouse was probably part of a triumphal route to the monastery church. The representative building (the Royal Hall) was built around 900 in the Carolingian style. Today, only small parts of the once extensive monastery complex remain. Next to the gatehouse, you can still find a small remnant of the once very large monastery church. Remains of the monastery wall are also still preserved. 🚴♂️de.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Lorsch

Nice stopover to refill his bottles with drinking water from the well. A tap for bottling is available.
