In memory of this visit of King Alfonso XII to Nerja on January 12, 1885, this monument was built. It is a bronze statue made by the artist Francisco Martín. It shows King Alfonso XII, also known as the Peacemaker, leaning on the railing of the Balcony of Europe in an attitude of rest.
