Grünsberg Castle dates from the Staufer period. The oldest known documentary mention was 1231. In the Bavarian War of Succession Grünsberg fell in 1504 - like the whole of Nuremberg - to the free imperial city of Nuremberg. On this occasion, the upper floors, which were half-timbered, burned down completely to the foundations. In 1561 the reconstruction of the palace was completed. That is why the Palas is a Renaissance building from the outside. In 1660 the property passed to the Paumgartner family as a maternal inheritance. The last Paumgartner undertook a major renovation in the Regence style in honor of his young, second wife Sophie. Since then, Grünsberg has been a castle on the outside and a palace on the inside. In 1754, Sophie's daughter from her second marriage married Carl Christoph Stromer von Reichenbach. As a result, Grünsberg Castle was owned by the patrician Stromer von Reichenbach family until 2000. Grünsberg Castle can be visited all year round on guided tours, in summer concerts and other cultural events take place. A visit can be wonderfully combined with a short hike through the surrounding flora and fauna habitat of the Stromerwald with the wild and romantic Teufelsschlucht and a culinary highlight in neighboring Burgthann.
