The Barge-Bricherasio railway line was built in the early months of 1883 and was inaugurated on 6 September 1885. The railway station complex consisted of the passenger building, the goods depot and the locomotive shed (railway workshop). Since Barge was a head station, a building was needed to house the steam locomotives, to clean and maintain them. The aforementioned building, a typical example of railway architecture, is located near the Hotel Institute. It has two floors above ground, with a plant consisting of two rectangular lateral bodies measuring 6.15 x 9.10 m connected to a central rectangular sleeve with sides 7.30 x 14.40 m, overlooking land owned by the municipality. Access to the building is guaranteed by the two lateral bodies. To facilitate maintenance of the locomotives, the workshop was equipped with a drainage pit to collect the ash and water that came out of the boiler during washing. The building has a roof which in the central part is raised in such a way as to act as an outlet for smoke and steam. The presence of large openings on the sides allowed optimal lighting necessary for repairs. The first floor of the building housed the dormitories for the engine staff.

Between January and May 2017, the restoration of the building was started and concluded.

Located at the beginning (or at the end, depending on how you want to see it) of the Barge-Bricherasio cycle path, a beautiful example of industrial archeology recovery. The isolated building of the workshop has been converted into a museum, in the main building there are bars and eateries. A nice place to visit and / or take a break.
