Just south of the new hamlet of Handour, across the river, is the old kasbah and village of Handour. Because these old Berber castles are built only from rammed earth, they are exposed to constant weathering. If it is no longer worth repairing or if it is easier to build new, this will be done in the neighborhood. This is not an uncommon practice in rural Morocco.
