Natuurmonumenten has leased its land on the Velhorst estate to an organic farmer. They work here in an organic way and contribute to the restoration of the small-scale agricultural landscape. You walk past vegetable gardens, fields and with a bit of luck you see the Bonte Bentheimer pigs rooting in the earth.

In 1105 a Wenzo van Vrollehorst is mentioned for the first time in a charter; he is mentioned there as a witness and was presumably associated with the property located in Lochem, which would have consisted of a courtyard with an associated farm. In the 14th and 15th centuries, the inhabitants of that farm named themselves after that property: Van Verlehorst. On the estate near the manor you will find a number of farms, a garden that is open on Thursdays and a beautiful path with rhododendrons that leads to the Berkel via a tea house.See also: nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velhorst
