The Ems Lateral Canal is a 9 km long federal waterway in Lower Saxony near Emden/East Friesland. It runs from the Lower Ems near Oldersum via the Oldersum lock to the Borßum lock, which takes you to the inland port of Emden.

It is part of the Ems Dollart Route. From Petkum to the seaport of Emden.

This path is highly recommended as a hiking or cycling path.

It connects the towns of Emden with Petkum (Ditzum ferry) or further to Oldersum.

From Petkum to Oldersum, the path for hikers leads directly along the canal, but for cyclists it leads

he then sometimes away from the canal. But shortly before Oldersum you come back directly to the canal
