Built in 1915 to enable transport for the Italian army to the Battles of the Isonzo, this railway line was also opened to civilian traffic after the First World War. The route was 28 kilometers and took around an hour and 40 minutes. Due to maintenance costs, operations were stopped again in 1932. The train was locally called "kokošar" (chicken train) because many travelers took chickens with them to sell in Cividale. The current cycle path, partly gravel, promises moderate gradients.
