Doberan Monastery is a former Cistercian abbey in Bad Doberan, which was founded as a monastery in Mecklenburg after the adoption of Christianity by the Obodrite prince Pribislaw and later developed into a spiritual, political and economic center in the country. The monastery church, the Doberan Minster, is one of the most important high Gothic brick buildings in Europe. The monastery owned extensive land holdings until the Reformation and was the burial place of the Principality of Mecklenburg.
