Hohenzollern Castle in Sigmaringen
he castle of Sigmaringen was first mentioned in 1077 in the chronicle of the Petershausen monastery. The oldest parts of the Hohenzollern Castle are hidden under the large new buildings and conversions of the 17th and 19th centuries. The remains of the castle that are still preserved date from the Staufer period around 1200 (castle gate, palace and keep). Essential castle elements merged with the successor buildings over the course of the epochs. The origin of the palace buildings is largely identical to the outer enclosing wall of the castle.

The Princely Hohenzollern Castle Sigmaringen, which sits enthroned on a rock above the Danube, dates back to a castle of the Counts of Werdenberg from the 11th century. After a devastating fire in 1893, parts of it were rebuilt in its current form by Emanuel von Seidl on behalf of the Prince of Hohenzollern.
