Beautiful old Roman town with old city walls and city gates. These have been restored again by local clubs and are used extensively.

In the course of fortification at the end of the 14th century, the east gate of the city was built at the end of the same street to Cologne as a so-called double gate, that is, through the first gate (angular Vortorbau with crenellated) you got into a courtyard (kennel) to the second, higher main gate (inner gate) to enter the city. This should make it difficult for the enemy to penetrate. In 1886 it was enlarged, the archway was raised. But the traffic increased more and more, and the city wall attached to the gate had to be broken then. During the Second World War, the Kölntor was provided with concrete tank barriers, which are still visible today. The war damage was very high here, and so the walls were repaired between 1949 and 1953. An extensive restoration was undertaken by the carnival company Blaue Funken. She set up a guardroom in the gate in collaboration with the city and the state conservator.

Well-preserved gate, which is sometimes occupied with tables by the nearby inn.
