On 24 June 1859 Cavriana was the scene of the battle of Solferino and San Martino, and Villa Mirra was the headquarters first of the Austrians and then of the French. Just from Cavriana, Napoleon III sent the dispatch to his wife saying he had won the battle. In 1861 Cavriana became part of the Kingdom of Italy.
