In 1849 the castle was built in Neoclassical style with features of Palladian architecture on the banks of the Nete. The owners were the Berckmans family, landowners who also owned the old Isschot castle in Itegem. The facade with its four columns framing the three central windows is inspired by the Petit Trianon pavilion of the Château de Versailles. The entrance with high Doric columns is characteristic. The castle has a flat roof.

In 1910 the castle was bought by Ernest Lowet. In 1996 the castle was restored and in 1997 the park was redesigned. The castle is located in a domain of 24 ha, with ponds. There is an orangery on a quarter-circle plan. There is also a caretaker's house on the site, which also exhibits neoclassical style features.

The current owner and resident of Hof van Ringen is the Belgian fashion designer Dries Van Noten.
