San Juan de las Abadesas is a municipality in Catalonia, Spain. Belonging to the province of Gerona in the Ripollés region, located between Camprodón and Ripoll, at the confluence of the Ter river and the Arçamala stream, in the San Juan valley.
Its monastery founded in the 9th century (887) by Wifredo el Velloso and his wife the Countess Guinedilda as a dowry for their daughter Emma of Barcelona who would become their first Abbess is famous. This town has two historic bridges over the Ter river as structural heritage: the old medieval bridge or Pont Vell and a 20th-century concrete bridge known as Pont Nou.
Until the mid-1980s, it was connected by rail with Ripoll and Barcelona.
