The noble family of stone is occupied in Künzelsau from the 11th century. After these died out, their relatives, so the gentlemen of Künzelsau and the lords of Bartenau, inherited the legacy of those of Stein. The von Künzelsau built around 1248 their castle Kunzelsawe. After extinction of the Künzelsau in 1341, Bartenau Castle became their residence. As the Lords of Bartenau died out, inherited in 1390, the Lords of Stetten the castle, which they sold in 1484 partly to the Archdiocese of Mainz. By divide the castle Bartenau reached the house Hohenlohe. Count Johann Ludwig von Hohenlohe demolished Bartenau Castle in 1679 and built a three-storey castle in the style of the late Renaissance with four round towers in its place. From 1873, the building served as a teacher's seminar, then as an educational institution, today it is housed in a public high school with boarding school.

A nice place to start the bike tour, since there are parking spaces right next to where you can park your car

It's called Schloss Bartenau, not Schloss Künzelsau.
It is a school today and private.

In the Middle Ages there was a two-part moated castle on the Schlossplatz, which was inhabited by the Lords of Cunzelsowe and the Lords of Bartenau. From 1679 to 1681 it was expanded into a Renaissance-style palace under Johann Ludwig von Hohenlohe.
The castle is now a secondary school and boarding school.
