The massive building has a representative Renaissance portal from 1611. It was built as the official building of the Würzburg Bishopric. Later it was also used by state institutions, primarily as a courthouse until 1959. Since 2022, one of the historic rooms has housed an exhibition on the excavations of the Osterburg castle ruins.
