Since 1880, the impressive avenue has led to the St. Peter and Paul Church in the Cappel district. Initially, the Dutch linden trees formed an imposing four-row avenue, but during the world wars many trees were felled for firewood. Today, 168 trees are still preserved and are cared for by the "Cultural Heritage Village Wurt Cappel" association. In 2003 the avenue was declared a natural monument. In the course of this, some trees were replaced and the historical path through the avenue to the church was reconstructed according to historical models.
