An interesting hydraulic structure. Opens every hour on the hour for bicycles and pedestrians, the walk is worthwhile, even planning for it or a short wait for it. The railway bridge, which appears here from time to time in the posts, is not accessible.

In order to protect the Elsflether hinterland - i.e. the towns of Elsfleth and Oldenburg and parts of the communities of Wardenburg and Zwischenahn - from storm surges, the Hunte barrage was built between 1976 and 1979. It is located at the confluence of the Hunte and the Weser near Elsfleth. The barrage is approx. 120 m wide, the openings for shipping are 26 m wide for each direction of travel. Pedestrians and cyclists can reach the Weser peninsula "Elsflether Sand" every hour on the hour via the Hunte barrier.
