Also on the other side of the village about 2 km on the road to Estepona you will find a memorial plaque for 34 people who were tortured, mutilated and finally murdered there

Follow the path out of town towards the disused cemetery and then follow the right fork down the hill for a short distance to find this relatively hidden memorial commemorating 9 people murdered by fascists after their return to Casares after the abandonment of the town after heavy naval bombardment in 1937.
I’d recommend you also search to find out the history of Casares during the civil war. No one would think such a pretty and quiet town could be the scene of such horrors.
Also note the date on a monument that could not have been created until after the Franco regime ended, a very short time ago when you think about it.
