Remains of the wall and an arch of what was a fortress of Arab origin located at the top of the city.

Cuenca Castle and its wall are fascinating historical elements located in the highest part of the city, between the gorges of the Júcar and Huécar rivers. The castle, originally an Islamic fortress, was conquered by Alfonso VIII in the 12th century. Although much of the castle was destroyed during the War of Independence, significant remains can still be seen, such as the Arch of Bezudo and some sections of the wall.

As a medieval city, the city of Cuenca also had a castle with high and solid stone walls to defend the city from enemy attacks.
In the Middle Ages, the castles were not only intended to defend the city, but it was also the residence of the king. It was King Alfonso VIII who lived in Cuenca during the ten years he reigned.
