Piazza dei Cavalieri in Pisa is, after Piazza del Duomo, the most famous square in the city. In ancient times it represented the center of civil power (compared to the religious one of the platea episcopalis), while from the second half of the sixteenth century it became the headquarters of the Order of the Knights of Santo Stefano, wanted by the Grand Duke Cosimo I de 'Medici. Today it is a pole of cultural and study attraction due to the presence of the headquarters of the Scuola Normale Superiore.

This square of the knights was created in the Medici era. It served as a demonstration of power. Today it is peaceful there. When I was there there was a market. Particularly impressive: Palazzo Carovana

The Piazza dei Cavalieri (German for Knights' Square) is famous for its representative buildings. It is located in the old town of Pisa and used to be the secular main square of the city of Pisa. The influential Medici family demonstrated their power in this square, but that's not the only meaning of the square for the history of this city. Pisa lost its independence in 1406 when the city handed over the keys to representatives of its biggest competitor, Florence. Ultimately, Piazza dei Cavalieri is one of the most beautiful Renaissance European squares.
