The modern new building of the tower is very well done. Wide stairs with child safety locks lead up the "ladder to heaven", from which you have a wonderful view. Even with a large number of visitors, it is still possible to climb up and down safely.

The first Irene Tower was built in 1890 and was 23m high. The tower is named after Princess Irene of Prussia, daughter of Grand Duke Ludwig IV of Hesse-Darmstadt. The first tower only lasted a few years and therefore had to be replaced by a new tower.
The new Irene Tower was built in 1910 and is 27m high. It is one of the symbols of the Überwald region. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the tower in 2010, ownership was transferred to the Rimbach municipality.
The viewing tower has been closed for security reasons since May 2, 2013. It consists mainly of softwood elements that have been damaged by bark beetles and rot.
A new tower is currently being built next to the Irenen Tower and should open in the next few weeks.
