The Valverde Castle (10th century) is located on the Fabriciano hill, and originates from an ancient medieval fortress connected to the watchtowers of Sorisole and of the Maresana.

In 1585 it was elected as the residence of a Venetian captain, a certain Paolo Loredan who transformed it into a villa.

Captain Loredan had the task of completing in 1588, with the bulwark of the Fara, the new walled city walls of Bergamo: from his home he could thus follow the latest operations on sight.

The castle then belonged to the Medolago family, as revealed by the coat of arms above the entrance portal.

Between 1926 and 1930, when Giuseppina Cattaneo of the Baroni Scotti was the owner, it was restored giving it its current appearance. It is now owned by the Cattaneo Carrara family.

It is also known as the Quarenghi house, from the name of the architect who designed the recent guesthouse building built at the beginning of the avenue leading up to the Castle.

It currently hosts various kinds of events and there is a bed & breakfast furnished with period furniture.

The castle, which is located on the slopes that frame the Venetian walls, is considered one of the most beautiful places in the hills of Bergamo, with a splendid view of the Upper Town.

The large park is rich in numerous essences and also has a part with an Italian garden.
