At the Zschepa 1 prisoner of war cemetery, more than 8500 deceased Soviet prisoners of war were buried in mass graves between December 1942 and September 1944. Today, there are steles in the cemetery with the names and dates of birth and death of the deceased. In the center of the site, an obelisk was erected in 1948/49 on behalf of the Soviet occupation forces.
At the entrance to the cemetery, there are plaques with photographs of prisoners of war buried here. Descendants can thus individually commemorate their deceased family members.

Cycling
The Zschepa 2 cemetery is the last cemetery established in the Zeithain prisoner-of-war camp. Here, from September 1944 until the camp's liberation on April 23, 1945, over 7,000 prisoners of war were buried in mass graves. After liberation, another 453 people were buried in individual graves. These included, in addition to prisoners, forced laborers and their children, who died from the consequences of the treatment they suffered at German hands before being transported back to their homelands.
