The Estrella, Probadora and Justicia mines were the most important. These were small underground farms.

Mining operations in the upper Genil basin date back to Roman times. The Arabs also took advantage of the veins of pyrite, chalcopyrite and argentiferous galena from the bowels of the valley. In the 19th century the facilities were modernized and in 1890 the current road layout of the Vereda de la Estrella was built. The mineral extracted in the deposits was lowered to the loading docks of the San Juan ravine by means of ox carts and mules. The first remains of the mining activity that appear along the way are the ruins of the Probadora mine, at the intersection with the Cañada Real del Camino de los Neveros, an old route for snow collectors and nomadic cattle ranchers. The frameworks of the royal ravines of the Camino de los Neveros, the Cuerda and the Collado de las Sabinillas complete a total of 22 kilometers of cattle trails through the heights of the Sierra Nevada.
