Line 156 Hermeton-sur-Meuse - Mariembourg - Chimay - Anor (F) was established on the initiative of the Chimacian nobility through the Compagnie de Chimay of which it was the only line.
Secondary line aiming to open up the Belgian entities of a cross-border region called the Fagne (and more broadly the Thiérache), the line and its operating company entered the small history of the railway in Belgium as the last to be nationalized, at the end of the initial concession in 1948.
