From the switchbacks climbing the hills on the south bank of Elk Creek there are sweeping beach views as a reward for the arduous workout. The beach access is further north of the creek.

When riding down the Shoreline Highway, every time you cross a creek, you encounter a familiar pattern: switchbacks down, a sharp turn at the bottom, then an arduous climb back up. Of all the stream crossings in the area, this gulch just south of the village of Elk has the most challenging climb back up.
