The former castle of Steinau is a really exciting place. Since 2005, this complex has been uncovered by a support association with the help of many volunteers and in close coordination with the monument protection authorities. And not only that: Large parts of the site are freely accessible and you can visit them. You can climb the tower every second Saturday – while the work assignments are taking place – or by appointment.

Little by little the outlines of the former moated castle of Steinau are taking shape. The Burgreste association, which is responsible for the uncovering, will erect a 14 meter high tower silhouette in two to three months - a sign of the former castle near Petersberg (Fulda district) that can be seen from afar.
Petersberg - For 18 years, the members have been digging into the past and repeatedly uncovering parts of the building, discovering medieval exhibits such as a 600-year-old rattle or a slingshot ball and of course more and more parts of the building. The outlines are now clearly visible.
Eight years ago, during their excavations in Petersberg-Steinau (Fulda district), the members came across the foundations of the eastern tower. These were uncovered and rebuilt in parts up to a height of four meters as a protective layer for the historical substance.
