The Dünzebacher Tor tower is the only surviving tower from the former city fortifications. It dates from the 16th century. The wall that used to enclose the city is only visible in very few places, such as in Mauerstrasse.Source: werratal-tourismus.de

The gate tower, built in 1531, is the only surviving tower from the former city fortifications. The inner city gate used to be next to the tower. The slender round tower made of sandstone blocks with a pointed helmet and half-timbered roof core is equipped with a few small loopholes. It survived the city fire of 1637 with some damage. It was restored in its current form in 1690. It also used to be a prison, hence the name thief tower or prison tower. Torture and interrogations were carried out here during witch trials in the 16th and 17th centuries. The imposing building, renovated in 1980, is a cultural monument due to its historical and urban significance.
