The hermitage was built in 1606 with two large rooms; one the church itself and the other the old hostelry. Inside, the main altarpiece stands out, presided over by the image of Our Lady of Hontanares. The hermitage occupies the place where the church of the village of Hontanares previously existed, now disappeared.

The hermitage of the Virgen de Hontanares is a mountain sanctuary from the beginning of the 17th century.
