The idyllically located Lugenteich is surrounded by the extensive forests of the Ritzmannshofer forest. The Lugenteich is located 2.8 km east of Sallingstadt. It is owned by the Zwettl monastery, has a size of approx. 1 ha and is used for carp farming. The small island in the middle of the pond is particularly attractive. The name derives from its tributary, the Lugengraben. The construction probably dates back to the 13th or 14th century. Like most ponds in the upper Waldviertel, the Lugenteich was probably built by Bohemian pond builders.
