The Schänzle is a small, pentagonal bastion in front of the west side of Tübingen Castle. It is located where Schlossbergstraße, Schlossbergstaffel and Kapitänsweg meet and is now partly overgrown with trees.

From the castle courtyard, the site can be reached through two consecutive tunnel-like passages and further around the Haspelturm. This is, so to speak, the back exit of the castle, through which you can now reach the Schlossberg and Spitzberg during the day. The round Haspelturm stands on the southwest corner of the castle, and the northwest corner is formed by the so-called "Westbastion", which rises high from the Hasengraben.
