The Beinsteiner Torturm is the only preserved city gate of the medieval city of Waiblingen. It narrowly escaped demolition in the early 19th century. At that time the cities no longer had to seal themselves off militarily from the outside world, and with the abolition of gate guards they had also lost their civilian use, for the cities began to expand into the surrounding countryside. The Schmidener and Fellbacher Tors were therefore "offered for demolition" and demolished in 1832 and 1838. The Beinsteiner Tor was only given a grace period because it was still used as a prison. In 1866, however, the postponed demolition was discussed controversially at a municipal council meeting. On its outside is the coat of arms of the Württemberg Count Eberhard in the beard, carved in sandstone with the year 1491. Below it is a two-part sgraffito from the National Socialist era. The aim was to refer to the city's connections with the Hohenstaufen dynasty with the Hohenstaufen knight and the burning city model, flanked by two mercenaries, to the destruction in the Thirty Years' War in 1634. ....
