The small wooden bridge marks the transition to the "Holzurburg am Bederkesaer See" nature reserve, a 625-hectare forest and moor area that belongs to the Wesermünde and Stader Geest. It has a wide range of flora and fauna to offer, as well as some information boards and is intersected by a 4km long forest nature trail and the approx. 7km long circular lake trail.

In the raised moor area of the Holzurburg Moor there are moor soils, with the white peat thickness being between 2.4 m and over 4 m. The surface of the moorland is drained through a ditch system into Lake Bederkesa. The reforestation of large parts of the raised moor area began over 100 years ago. Around 25 hectares - especially in the southern border area of the forest - are semi-natural pine and birch stands, which represent the potentially natural vegetation of the drained raised moor. Occasionally, natural raised moor relics with bell heather and cotton grass can be found.
