The approximately 500 meter long bridge is of great importance in terms of railway, engineering and bridge construction history. The bridge was built in 1846 during the construction of the Berlin-Magdeburg railway line by the Berlin-Potsdam-Magdeburg Railway Company.
The bridge on the disused Biederitz–Magdeburg–Buckau railway line is east of Magdeburg. It runs from the Magdeburg district of Berliner Chaussee eastwards to the Biederitz district of Heyrothsberge, bridging the Elbe Umflutkanal and the Ehle.
