Between the Temples of Giants and the capital Victoria it is worth taking a detour of about 2.5km towards Xeuchia to visit the Rotonda.
There is no shelter along the way, it doesn't hurt to have a hat and sunscreen with you.
The imposing Church of St. John the Baptist is the largest in Gozo and is of very recent construction, consecrated in 1978, it is noted by the modern style of the interiors and frescoes.
At the entrance you will be greeted by a very kind nun who with a small donation will grant you the use of the elevator, to reach the upper and external part of the church, where you can admire the dome and the surrounding panorama, and the entrance to the Museum of Sculptures, small adjoining room preserved by the dismantling of the old church that collects the best artifacts and an incredible bas-relief of the lamb above the altar.
It is possible to go up to the top of the bell tower, beware of the very strong wind!
The elderly and kind nun speaks excellent English and is worth a chat with her if you are curious about the history of the place.

Saint John the Baptist (also John the Baptist), to whom this church in Ir-Rabat (Victoria, Gozo) is dedicated, is – like Saint Joseph – a man on the threshold of the Old and New Testaments. His parents are Zechariah and Elizabeth. After the proclamation of God's incarnation, the Mother of God visits her relative Elizabeth, who will give birth to a son in old age, John the Baptist. This is half a year older than Jesus and is considered his forerunner / pioneer. He lives in the desert, preaches the repentance of sins to the Jewish population and baptizes them in the Jordan, where Jesus also comes to be baptized, being filled with the Holy Spirit that descends on him from heaven.
The memorial day of John the Baptist (Baptist) in the calendar of saints is June 24th, exactly half a year before 'Christmas Eve'.
