A settlement existed in the area around Rendel as early as the early Alemannic period (4th century). In 774 it was mentioned as "Rantuvilre".
During the Staufer period, Rendel was probably an imperial estate, from 1225 it probably belonged to Münzenberg Castle, at the end of the 13th century it became part of the Kaichen Free Court, in 1475 to Friedberg Castle, and finally in 1806 to the Grand Duchy of Hesse.
In 1192 a priest was called to Rendel; the church was probably founded by the locals themselves, and was probably on the estate of a landowner.
