Schengen is a small, unobtrusive wine village on the Mosel. Nevertheless, it enjoys a great reputation, because after him, the Schengen Agreement is named. On June 14, 1985, on a Mosel ship near Schengen, five EU member states decided to abolish controls at common borders. The European Monument and a piece of the Berlin Wall on the banks of the Moselle are reminiscent of this important agreement.
