Location: Brendola, Vicenza, Veneto, Italy
"The Incompiuta" towers over Brendola in all its spectral majesty: an imposing cathedral almost completed, but never finished; a surreal and fascinating spectacle, uncomfortable but beautiful.
Conceived to break down parochialism among the inhabitants of the four parishes into which the town was divided, by will of the parish priests, it was begun in 1931, uniting volunteers from all over Brendola in the works... but the construction site stopped with the arrival of the Second World War and never restarted, for reasons that are still not entirely clear! The structure is 30 meters high, with an imposing 4-meter statue of St. Michael the Archangel placed on the top of the facade. It's a shame that it is fenced off and not passable inside, but after 70 years of abandonment it is understandable for the risks to public safety.prolocobrendola.it/chiesa-nuova-incompiuta
