"The Unfinished" towers over Brendola in all its ghostly majesty: an imposing cathedral nearly completed, but never finished; a surreal and fascinating sight, uncomfortable yet beautiful. Conceived to break down parochialism among the residents of the four parishes into which the town was divided, by the parish priests' will, construction began in 1931, bringing together volunteers from across Brendola... but construction halted with the onset of World War II and never resumed, for reasons that are still unclear!

The structure is 30 meters tall, with an imposing 4-meter statue of St. Michael the Archangel atop the façade. It's a shame that it's fenced off and closed to traffic, but after 70 years of neglect, this is understandable given the public safety risks.
