It was founded by the Figueroa family, of which Doña María, as the last heiress, wanted to fulfill the testamentary will of her brothers to found a convent of Augustinian Recollect monks, a foundation that went through multiple problems when the interests of the Jesuits who wanted to prevent the all costs the foundation.
