Statue Freddie Mercury, Montreux
“If you want peace of mind, come to Montreux” said Freddie Mercury (1946-1991). Not only did he live here, but he also recorded six of his albums with Queen, including “Made in Heaven”. His statue on the lake promenade was erected in his memory in 1996. It is easily recognizable by the flowers that his fans still lay there today.

On November 6, 1995, almost five years after Innuendo, the Queen album Made in Heaven was released with the last recordings of Freddie Mercury: A Winter’s Tale, You Don’t Fool Me and Mother Love, sung a few months before his death. The last verse was sung by Brian May. Mercury had continued to devote himself to music with all his might despite the HIV diagnosis. Most of his last recordings were made in Queen's studio in Montreux on Lake Geneva, [20] where the CD cover for Made in Heaven was made - it shows Mercury's larger than life statue, which today stands in memory of Lake Geneva, at dusk.
