A mighty viaduct with three large arches spans the valley near Mackenheim. The bridge is built from huge, even sandstone blocks; the two pillars are interrupted by a cornice at the base of the arch. A light iron railing provides a visual finish at the top. Although the bridge appears very massive, it does not appear clumsy at all.

The track runs along the hills in curves with the lowest possible gradient. This course is also maintained in the viaduct; it crosses the valley in a slight curve. The disused and partially dismantled railway line of the "Überwaldbahn" between Mörlenbach andWahlen (16 km), with its engineering structures (a total of 4 viaducts and 2 tunnels) and the still existing station buildings, is part of the cultural heritage worth preserving and is in the railway topography of the state of Hesse as a "technical “Overall monument” listed.

The viaduct is located in the immediate vicinity of the amphibolite quarry at the Weinheim-Schriesheim porphyry works, which is controversial because of its expansion plans.
