The Ihlsee and Ihlwald nature reserve is located in the district of Segeberg and can be found on the northern outskirts of Bad Segeberg. The Ihlsee is characterized by a number of special features. It is one of the few nutrient-poor and lime-poor lakes in Schleswig-Holstein and thus offers a home to rare aquatic plants. The area has been under nature protection since 1950 and was reported as a fauna-flora habitat in 2006. The Ihlwald, also known as Bruchwald, which borders the Ihlsee to the south, can be explored on a hiking trail. The forest itself is completely natural, apart from a few interventions that are necessary due to traffic safety on the hiking trail. The forest area consists of deciduous forest and wet forest. The willow tit, for example, or five different woodpecker species feel very comfortable here.
