The Palazzo dei Normanni is a royal palace in Palermo, built by the Arabs in the 9th century. After the Normans took over, it was further expanded and embellished. The name Norman Palace, or Palazzo Reale, thus originates from this period, when the Norman kings resided here. The palace experienced its cultural peak, as it was not only a meeting place for artists and scholars, but also a major part of public life.
