The Hufener Bachtal nature reserve is located southeast of Baumen in the municipality of Waldbröl (Oberbergischer Kreis) and consists of 4 sub-areas. The meandering, approx. 1-2 m wide stream is lined with an alder gallery forest, which is mixed with willows and English oaks. Due to its near-natural course, which comes close to the reference state, there are gravel and gravel banks as well as still and shallow water zones. The largest space is taken up by the damp to wet grassland, which is composed of small-scale alternating fresh to damp smooth oat meadows, marsh marigold meadows, meadowsweet meadows and canary grass stands.
