Due to its location between the Albert Canal and the E313, the area regularly causes a lot of discussion. The Thiewinkel nature reserve is actually split in two by the E 313 In the western part, Limburgs Landschap vzw tries to preserve and further develop the ponds, humid forests and the richly varied cultural landscape. In the eastern part, also called 'Groene Delle', forest determines the view. Limburgs Landschap wants to gradually transform this forest to a native deciduous forest with open spaces where heathland or swamp can develop, creating an ideal biotope for dragonflies and birds."
