De Bereklauw is an alternative, self-sufficient living community for about 20 residents and a large number of visitors. The Gosse Foundation was founded. Without any significant government support, it has been offering free room and board for over 40 years to people struggling to find their place in society. Homeless people, ex-convicts, refugees, former psychiatric patients, and those seeking alternative and sustainable living live and work together there in a loosely knit community, without too many rules.
