In the north of the Baltic Sea Resort Damp is the nature reserve "Schwansener See". It covers about 215 hectares, in which the 110-acre Lake Schwansener is embedded between salt marshes and large pastures. For birds this place is "the place to be", because about 120 breeding bird species come here regularly. The reserve is a wintering area for about 15,000 birds.
